Bioplastics is a general term for plastics that are either biodegradable or produced from renewable sources, or both. They have the same properties as conventional plastics, but offer the added advantage of being more environmentally friendly.
Biodegradable plastic is a plastic that under appropriate conditions, due to the action of natural microorganisms, allows the polymer chain to be broken down into naturally occurring substances.
Biobased plastics are plastics produced from renewable sources, such as maize, sugar cane, soya beans, etc.
Another important group of plastics that can contribute positively to reducing the carbon footprint along with bioplastics is recycled plastics.
