A compostable material is defined as one that is not only biodegradable but also disintegrates and decomposes in less than three months.
But how does this affect us in our everyday lives? It affects us, for example, when we take a bag and put it in the bin for wet waste. While we have now learned to throw only food and organic waste into the organic waste bin, which can rightfully enter the composting process, we must be careful to choose only compostable bioplastic or paper bags to collect this waste. Biodegradable bags, which are not compostable, should not be 'mixed' with organic waste. Biodegradable plastics that are not compostable should still be disposed of in plastic or in undifferentiated rubbish.
