29/09/2023
Thermoplastic elastomers
The polyurethane products in the Laripur RS range - formulated with a raw material component from renewable sources of up to 75% - initially used above all to produce soles for footwear in the luxury bracket, are now requested also for applications in the sports and technical sectors

COIM, an Italian multinational that has manufactured chemical products since 1962 and that operates all over the world through nineteen manufacturing and trading companies, will be present at FAKUMA 2023 with its Laripur RS biobased thermoplastic polyurethane products.

Obtained from products derived from vegetable crops with a controlled supply chain, they can be supplied with a carbon content from renewable sources of up to 75%.

“The replacement of fossil-based materials with materials from renewable sources represents a major shift towards environmentally friendly solutions that can be adopted on a large scale: the biobased materials developed by COIM using renewable plant sources, were formulated in such a way as to replace the traditional products, while preserving the same and, in some cases, even better properties without our customers having to make changes to their machinery or consolidated production methods.” explains Raimondo Baldassarri, Laripur R&D Manager.

“We also offer our customers a comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) of the products, in order to be able to document their advantages in terms of sustainability.”

“The Bio Laripur RS new line of granules, – explains Gilberto Nini, EMEA Business Manager of Laripur TPU – initially aroused the interest of the luxury footwear industry, for the production of soles. The sustainability of products is of strategic importance in this sector.

There is now an increase in demand also in the technical sectors and those that produce less "visible" solutions, such as films and tubes. This is a tangible sign of the commitment of all companies towards greater environmental awareness.

We are sure that the biobased product market will continue to grow considerably in the years to come, also on the basis of increasingly strict regulatory requirements.”
